Das Atelier Oball Murano Glas wurde in den 1970er Jahren von Luigi Onesto gegründet. Luigi Onesto wurde auf der Insel Murano in Italien als Sohn einer Glasmacherfamilie geboren. Schon früh ist er in die Kunst der Glasherstellung eingetaucht. Bevor er sein eigenes Atelier eröffnete und die berühmte Murano Glas Aquarium Kollektionen kreierte, lernte Luigi während seiner Ausbildung das Handwerk der Glasherstellung. Insbesondere bei einer der führenden Glasfirmen Italiens.
Luigi war fasziniert von der Sommerso Glastechnik und widmete sein Leben der Kunst des Sommersos. Sommerso kann als ein dickes, festes Glas beschrieben werden, welches durch aufeinanderfolgende Schichten von unterschiedlich gefärbtem Glas erzeugt wird. Manchmal enthalten die Schichten kleine Blasen, Silber- oder Goldfolie oder auch andere Elemente. Diese Technik wird verwendet, um zeitlose Vasen, Schalen und Skulpturen zu schaffen.
Luigi inspirierte seine Söhne Fabio und Michael dazu, als Teenager in seinem Atelier mitzuarbeiten und die Kunst der Sommerso technik zu erlernen. Fabio und Michael erbten das Glasmacher-Talent ihres Vaters und folgten nicht nur seinen Fußstapfen, sondern gaben der Sommerso-Technik ihre eigene Note. Die Brüder, die von Fabios Sohn Christian begleitet werden, kreieren zeitgenössische Sommerso-Meisterwerke, die die alte Tradition des Sommersos respektieren und gleichzeitig ein modernes Design verleihen.
Fabio und Michael waren schon immer fasziniert von der Unterwasserwelt und wollten ihre Schönheit in zeitloser Sommersogotik festhalten. Durch viele Versuche und Fehler entwickelten sie eine spezielle Sommerso-Technik, die eine dreidimensionale Visualisierung des Meereslebens ermöglicht. Diese Sommerso-Skulpturen entstehen durch separates Blasen. Zuerst werden die verschiedenen sichtbaren Elemente geblasen und dann in separate geschmolzene Glasschichten gelegt. Die Weisheit des alten Künstlers und die Leidenschaft der jungen Generation treffen sich in diesen wirklich einzigartigen Meeresaquariumskulpturen.
